Field challenge

The source of free play had to be identified, the system restored to its original position and operational safety re-established.

02 / METHOD

Applied approach

  1. 01

    Inspection identified failed welds on the locking plate.

  2. 02

    Approximately 10 mm rotation was measured.

  3. 03

    The damaged plate was removed and a replacement fabricated.

  4. 04

    The replacement was installed, welded and aligned.

  5. 05

    Final operational checks were completed.

Customer outcome

The rudder was restored to its original alignment and the vessel continued safely without changes to the shipyard schedule.
