A sounding-point issue on an IACS-classed vessel was permanently resolved using a custom cofferdam and multi-stage verification.
01 / REQUIREMENT
Field challenge
A controlled dry boundary was required for internal welding without unnecessary intervention to the surrounding structure.
02 / METHOD
Applied approach
- 01
A 34 × 34 cm sound area was identified.
- 02
A 50 × 50 cm cofferdam was installed with minimum disruption.
- 03
An internal cut was made and the water drained.
- 04
Ceramic backing was positioned and welding completed.
- 05
Visual inspection, NDT, UT and vacuum tests followed removal.

Customer outcome
The repair passed four separate verification stages and was documented as a safe, permanent solution.
